On the face of it\, it seems an odd choice – one likely to make life considerably more difficult and dangerous. And yet\, people joined the Jesus-movement in their thousands. Alan Garrow proposes that it was the way the first Christians ate that caused others to join them – which leads to the obvious question\, why not eat in this way today?

The title of his lecture is ‘The Cross and The Crown’: the relationship between the kingdom of God and the cross of Christ.\nThe major theme of Jesus’ teaching and ministry in the synoptic gospels is the kingdom of God while in the New Testament letters the meaning and significance of Christ’s crucifixion is prominent. We will explore why this should be so and how the twin emphases of the crown (kingdom) and cross (atonement) fit with each other and indeed are inextricably linked.

His title is ‘Divorce and Remarriage in Bible times and today’. He will examine what the Bible says about divorce\, as it would have been understood by the original readers of the New Testament. David has written widely on this subject and Cornerstone Bookshop will as usual be present selling some of his titles as well as other books of theological interest. \nHis understanding of the Rabbinic dispute about the interpretation of Deuteronomy 24:1 gives us the context to interpret Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 19 and to deal with pastoral issues around marriage and divorce today.
