DESCRIPTION:Fixing Systems Not Just Symptoms: The Biblical Call to Justice with International Justice Mission (IJM) (live lecture)\n\n\n\nVenue:\nSt Mark’s Church\, Leeds Road\, Harrogate (& Zoom option)\nDate:\nSaturday 25th November 2023\, 10.00 – 12.00 noon with breakfast available from 9.30 am\nTickets:\n\nGeneral admission: £8\nStudent admission: £5\nUnder 18s: free\nZoom admission: £5\n\nTickets:\nThis event has now passed\n\n\n\nAs we seek to live out the call of Micah to act justly\, love mercy and walk humbly with God\, what does it look like to meet the immediate needs of those experiencing oppression and violence\, whilst also reforming the systems that perpetuate injustice?  \nIn this live lecture\, we will be considering the Biblical call to justice; diving into real examples of where International Justice Mission are working on the ground to see freedom\, justice and transformation. We will explore how we can take action to bring greater justice and mercy in our world today. \nWith around 50 million people trapped in slavery\, 1 in 4 of these children\, this is a massive issue for our world. How might we engage as individuals and churches to help end slavery in our lifetime? \nhttps://www.ijmuk.org  \nhttps://www.ijmuk.org/our-work  \nSpeaker Bio \nEsther Swaffield\, part of the UK leadership for IJM will lead this lecture. She heads a dynamic team who work across the UK to engage local partners\, champions and supporters in this global movement to end slavery and violent oppression. She is a gifted communicator and loves sharing stories of breakthroughs from around the world. Esther is based in Durham. \nThe Work of International Justice Mission\nInternational Justice Mission is a global organisation working with partners to protect people in poverty from slavery\, trafficking and violence.\nAs the world’s largest international anti-slavery organisation\, the IJM mission is to rescue millions\, protect half a billion and make justice for people in poverty unstoppable. \nEnding slavery and human trafficking is possible  – when people around the world choose to act. \nIJM’s work involves: bringing people to safety\, bringing criminals to justice and strengthening justice systems. They recruit local teams and work with local partners. Survivors regularly become part of the work and leaders themselves. IJM builds trust by tackling individual cases then moves on to system-wide change.\nIJM are making a major impact in a range of locations and independent reviews are showing a 50-85% reduction in slavery and trafficking in areas where they are working. \nhttps://www.ijmuk.org \nIJM need our help as champions to advocate for protection as an essential and tangible future for everyone.
